Fandoms

Ah yes, the wonderful world of fandoms.  You may be wondering what on earth a fandom is.  I'll tell you.

The word "fandom" is short for fanatic domain.  A fandom consists of people who share a common fanatic interest in something, such as a TV show, or a famous actor.  Fandoms have really taken off after the invention of social networking websites.  People all over the world can connect and talk about their favorite interests, which is really fantastic if none of your friends like the same things as you.  At least if you're part of a fandom, there's someone somewhere to talk to you about all your feels.

That's another thing.

Feels.

Sometimes they're great.  Most of the time they're painful. Feels are the strong emotions that you can experience while watching or reading something that you enjoy. Sometimes there's no explanation for feels.  For instance, just last night I saw a little gif for an event which occurs in the end scene credits of the new Marvel movie, Ant-Man.  It involved my favorite character and something bad is probably happening to them (I won't say who it is in case of spoilers). Since I have a strong emotional attachment to this character, I was pretty distraught to say the least.

So yeah.

Fandoms are great.  It gives people an opportunity to connect through a common interest.  It also gives you an opportunity to cry for days and weeks about the death of a favorite character. You may be reading this thinking "I completely relate to this. Yes this is so true." or perhaps you are thinking "I understand none of this and now I'm scared." Well, don't be scared.  We've all been part of fandoms during one point in our lives.  Whether it's a sci-fi show, football, or the latest book by your favorite author, we're all just fans of something.  I think it's beautiful.
