On The New Year

So, as a rule, I don't make New Year's resolutions often. However, this year I thought "why not?" and made a few for myself to follow.

First and foremost, I made a resolution to stop wasting my time. Last semester was mostly spent sitting around and listening to music and in general, not doing much of anything. As a result, I was usually in a rushed panic trying to get my homework turned in on time. Part of this could be due to the fact that I had yet to learn the value of spending my time wisely, but now that I understand that, I can move on. There are many smaller items on my list of resolutions, but I think most of them will be byproducts of being a productive human being.

Second, I decided to make my life more organized. This goes hand in hand with my first resolution, but it doesn't just involve my schedule. Which, has been improved, thanks to a system of journaling known as "Bullet Journaling". All information on this can be found on  http://bulletjournal.com/. Another aspect of my life that has been under the transformation of being organized is my room. Last semester, I generally let it become a scattered mess, but this year, I plan on keeping it organized, if not pristine. The success of this part of the resolution will be attributed to cleaning out any unwanted items I own and trust me, there are lots.

My third resolution is to find a good balance between what I need to do and what I want to do. Somewhat like my first resolution, but sometimes what I want to do are productive things, such as writing five more chapters of my book, or spending an hour or two doing research on various topics (mostly band related stuff). This can sometimes get in the way of things that must be done. So far, with scheduling what must be done in my Bullet Journal, I am able to keep track of what I need to do, and I just fit in what I want to do around these things.

Some of my other resolutions are to read more books, sketch more, do more things that make me happy, make a blog post a week, and finish writing my book (which I plan to tell you about next week).

So I know what you're probably thinking. "Well, gee, Emma. Do you actually plan to stick to these resolutions?" Absolutely. I find that it's in the little things that there's the most room for improvement, so that's what I'm doing. I'm also discovering a new adaptation to change. It's taken me a few years, but I'm more accepting of it than I used to be.

Overall, I plan to make this a good year. I've got a lot of things to look forward to. I see a lot of good coming in the future. There's hopes that I have for this year and it will be interesting to see if they all work out. One thing is for sure, I'm very excited to see what this year has in store.
